This month, we’re excited to spotlight Tomasz Gmur, our Product Strategy Lead for BigTime Foresight, from our Poland office! Tomasz played a crucial role in the successful launch of Foresight, our new resource management software. He even spent two months working in our Chicago office to make it happen.
Read on to learn about his experience working abroad and the cultural nuances between our U.S. and Poland offices.
What does your role entail?
I am responsible for the product strategy of Foresight — BigTime’s resource and profitability management tool. I’m responsible for developing and executing the strategic vision and roadmap, aligning with the company’s overall goals and objectives. One of my recent big projects has been implementing a company of 1,000 employees to Foresight which is the second largest company I have implemented in my time here.
What is the best advice you have for someone just starting out in their career?
Find a true mentor, someone who can coach you while being open to learning themselves. Additionally, don’t hesitate to try something new. Remember, if you don’t succeed at first, you can always try again!
What is something unique about BigTime that sets it apart from other companies?
The culture of owning it. Every BigTime employee is truly responsible for their work and for making good decisions. At the same time, there’s a truly fantastic team supporting each other at every step.
What challenges did you face in adapting to a new work environment, and how did you overcome them?
The time zone difference was the hardest to overcome but I was able to manage that by properly organizing my day. I also needed to learn a lot of informal language but luckily, all my colleagues were patient enough with my questions about the meanings of certain words and phrases.
Can you share some of your favorite things you did while in Chicago?
I was lucky enough to go to a Chicago Bulls game twice! I also enjoyed long walks along the shore of Lake Michigan.
What is something you are proud of in your personal life?
Being in a relationship with the love of my life – Klaudia, for 15 years.
Can you share some things others don’t know about you?
I was a passionate BMX rider until I was 15. Unfortunately, I destroyed my ACL on a dream BMX trip to Holland. BMX was great, and it taught me not to be afraid of taking on new challenges.
